UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start currently serves 928 children at 16 sites throughout Pulaski County. The programA?s overall goal is to increase the social competence of children in low income families and children with disabilities, while improving the chances of success in school. Head Start/Early Head Start addresses the needs of the whole child including the educational, vocational and material needs of the entire family. The program strives to enhance childrenA?s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while enabling parents to be better caregivers and teachers to their children. Head Start/Early Head Start helps parents meet their own goals while giving children a head start in life. The Preschool Caregiver works in a team situation to provide daily care to Head Start/Early Head Start children, such as, welcome children, changes diapers and/or potty trains others. S/He prepares children for eating by insuring clean faces and hands and assists children with feeding and supervises age appropriate activities with children and performs general duties, such as, disinfecting tables, changing tables, beds/cribs/cots, etc. Salary: 17,680 annually (8.50 hourly)Models appropriate language and behavior for children and parents in all situationsGuides learning through discovery in the environmentUtilizes curriculum for developing age appropriate activitiesAdheres to the Lesson Plan and class schedule as listed in the classroomAssesses childrenA?s development levels of learning and plans activities in accordance with developmentally appropriate practicesWorks cooperatively with other staff to ensure that the childrenA?s needs are met inside and outside the classroomEnsures that the learning environment is safe for Head Start/Early Head Start childrenMay perform other duties as assigned to assure program standards are metMinimum Qualifications:High School Diploma/GED plus six (6) months experience working directly with preschool age children (0:5) in a child related atmosphere.Current CDA Infant Toddler and/or Preschool OR must be willing to enroll in CDA Course.Preferred Qualifications:Bilingual English/Spanish (Speaking, Reading and Writing) preferred.UAMS offers amazing benefits and perks:Merchant discounts.Training and education opportunities (Including tuition discounts of up to 50, for full:time employees and eligible dependents seeking undergraduate credit).Health: Medical, Dental and Vision plans available for staff and family.UAMS employees are automatically enrolled in basic life at no cost.
