Title Position Type Non Classified Employee Class Code NF AR State Title Associate Vice Chancellor FLSA Exempt Position Summary and Qualifications Posting Number FNC01054 UALR Functional Title Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs - Continuous Improvement / R97339 Position Number R97339 Department Office-Provost Position Summary The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs-Continuous Improvement oversees all curricular processes within the division of Academic Affairs including assessment, program review, and accreditation to ensure that the institution is pursuing continuous improvement, as defined by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), in all of its academic offerings. The AVCAA/CI also oversees the Department of Records and Registration, and serves as a liaison to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and other partners. In addition, the professional selected for this position will have the opportunity to implement a comprehensive, continuous improvement process for the campus that includes integrated planning and resource allocation. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Job Duties and Responsibilities Programs and Curriculum + Provide oversight for the development and modification of academic programs at the certificate, associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels; + Review proposals, Letters of Notification (LONs), Letters Intent (LOIs), and Program Change Forms (PCFs) prior to beginning the approval process (when requested by the faculty/chair); + Provide support and direction of the establishment of new off-site instructional locations; + Advise faculty, chairs, and deans on the most efficient/effective ways to approach curricular change processes; + Ensure that all necessary documentation on approval requests is submitted to the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE). Communicate deadlines and processes; + Provide operational support for university-level curriculum committees; + Work on continuous improvement of communication and processes from the time curricular revisions are proposed through the entering of changes in Banner and ensure accurate catalog text; + Collaborate with campus leadership on integrated planning, including resource allocation for academic programs and student support. Program Review + Provide oversight for the program review process; + Maintain tracking system to determine which programs are on track to complete the review and where they are each step of the process; + Review departmental suggestions for external reviewers; + Make requests to ADHE regarding changes in the review schedule; + Evaluate the program review process and present recommendations for improving results; + Provide regular guidance to department chairs and deans' offices during the process; + Review all reports prior to their being submitted to reviewers and make recommendations to chairs/deans' offices regarding changes; + Submit program review documents to ADHE. Accreditation + Serve as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) and manage the HLC institutional accreditation process; + Ensure that proposals for all initiatives that require HLC approval are accurately prepared, submitted to the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and after approval, are forwarded to HLC; + Follow-up on information submitted to HLC; + Manage the Quality Initiative Proposal for the open pathway of HLC; + Review and provide guidance to deans, department chairs, and directors on program and college accreditation self-studies, applications, and reports. Assessment + Provide oversight in the implementation and management of a comprehensive, university-wide assessment process that meets accreditation standards and promotes a culture of continuous improvement; + Work with deans and chairs to ensure compliance with assessment requirements; + Manage the distribution of assessment funds. Liaison to ADHE, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, ASMSA, and Clinton School + Ensure that Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) annual reports are submitted by deadlines; + Work with appropriate individuals to prepare and submit ad hoc reports and special requests as required by ADHE and the legislature; + Coordinate (and negotiate) the timing of submissions for the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board agendas; + Serve as the primary contact when ADHE has a question/concern related to academic programs and submissions; + Guide approval processes on collaborative programs with University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS); + Serve as the liaison for the Arkansas School for Math, Science, and the Arts (ASMSA)-UALR partnership that provides research opportunities and upper-level course offerings for qualified ASMSA students; + Serve as a point of contact when process issues occur with the Clinton School (particularly graduation, international student processes, and the Higher Learning Commission); + Other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of institutional accreditation processes and policies; + Knowledge of current trends in higher education and implications for program, policy, and procedural change; + Knowledge of general principles of program review and curricular assessment; + Familiarity with general functions of a university Registrar; + Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders; + Excellent managerial and supervisory skills; + Excellent communication skills; + Proactive leadership skills; + Lead and serve as a member of diverse teams. Required Education and/or Experience Earned Doctorate degree, minimum of two (2) years of experience in educational administration. Must be tenured in an academic unit at UA Little Rock. Preferred Education and/or Experience Experience in higher education curriculum development and review; direct experience with a regional accreditation process; understanding of integrated planning, including resource allocation.
