Department Chair, Department of Leadership Studies Position Summary The University of Central Arkansas seeks a collaborative and innovative academic leader to serve as the chairperson for the Department of Leadership Studies. The chair position is a fulltime, 12 month, tenure-track faculty position. The chairperson will lead a diverse and dynamic faculty and seven graduate level programs of study, five of which are online programs. The chair administers the day-to-day operations, manages budgetary resources, and builds/sustains partnerships within the University and in the broader community. Job Duties and Responsibilities The chair will provide leadership and management for all aspects of the Department of Leadership Studies. Some specific responsibilities include: Evaluating, supporting, and mentoring faculty; Working with faculty to set and attain realistic goals; Establishing and maintaining effective communication; Maintaining an appropriate teaching load as determined by the candidate's background and experiences and by the needs of the department in one of these program areas: College Student Personnel Services and Administration, Instructional Technology, Library Media and Informational Technologies, Interdisciplinary PhD in Leadership, School Counseling, and School Leadership at the building and district levels; Assessing program outcomes and leading continuous improvement efforts; Developing a work environment conducive to productivity and collegiality; Advancing research agendas with faculty to support the education profession and discipline, and Working with the Dean and college administrative team to advance the excellence of the department and college. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of teaching, scholarship, and service to merit an appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher with tenure. Candidates must have proven leadership expertise in cultivating collaborative relationships within the department and the college, provide evidence of effective teaching in higher education, and possess a strong record of research and scholarship. The selected candidate will demonstrate a sustained commitment to diversity and inclusion and to the promotion of department, college, and university vision and mission statements. Required Education and/or Experience Earned doctorate in education or related field; Ability to be tenured at the associate level or above; Leadership experience at the program, department, or community level, and College/University level teaching experience commensurate with rank of appointment. Preferred Education and/or Experience Knowledge of CAEP/accreditation process; Skill in technology and the integration of technology in teaching, including online teaching, and Experience managing budgets.
