Title Position Type Classified Employee Class Code CF AR State Title Skilled Tradesman Grade C115 FLSA Non-Exempt Minimum Entry Salary $29,251 Hourly Rate 0.00 Search Manager Brittini Bolden, Ian Hadden, Michael Seamon Position Summary and Qualifications Posting Number CH00682 UALR Functional Title Skilled Tradesman-Mechanical / R98990 Position Number R98990 Department Facilities Mgmt-Mechanical Position Summary The Skilled Tradesman-STW-Mechanical/HVAC is responsible for performing skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment and facilities; perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment.The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for the work activities in one or more of the following skilled trades: HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and Mechanical. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Job Duties and Responsibilities + Install, maintain, repair and overhaul air conditioning systems, commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and combined heating, ventilation and cooling systems; + Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes; + Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments or repairs; service and repair evaporative coolers; + Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves; + Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; + Maintain parts and tool inventory; + Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, timers, motors and wiring systems as needed; + Connect motors to control panels; + Test and examine boiler operations, observing meter and pressure gauges; + Conduct boiler water quality test and treatment; + Adjust boiler burner combustion; + Lubricate and pack heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air-conditioning motors, pumps, fans, and other equipment; + Install and calibrate systems; + Install copper tubing and repair pipes and tubing as necessary; + Test joints and insulate pipes of refrigeration and air conditioning systems; + Flush boilers, descale tubing; rebuild pressure and temperature safety valves and water pumps; + Install, rebuild, replace or repair fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, gaskets and other equipment as necessary; + Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials; maintain log of tasks performed and write reports as required; + Assist other skilled tradesmen to complete projects that require multiple departments to work together; + Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions; + Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Must be able to wear a respirator; + Must be able to negotiate distances (from building to building on campus) and the ability to go up and down stairs in multi-story buildings; + Must be able to navigate in small spaces including manholes and tunnels to perform maintenance and/or make necessary repairs; + Must be able to hold, start, use and operate tools and equipment used in the skilled trade for extended periods; + Must be able to load/unload tools and equipment (weights varying up to 75 lbs.); + Must be able to communicate to campus community and co-workers; + Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades; + Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades; + Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades; + Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades; + Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings; + Ability to understand verbal and written instructions; + Ability to maintain inventory on needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades. Required Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma. Level 1: requires EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Technician Certification Level 2: Requires completion of an apprenticeship or academic program approved be the State of AR or an equivalent apprenticeship or academic program from another US state . Thee (3) or more years of work experience may be allowed as a substitute. Level 3: Requires AR Class B, C, D, E, or L HVAC license, or equivalent license in good standing from another US state, or completion of an apprenticeship program approved by the state of AR or an equivalent apprenticeship/academic program. Five (5) or more years of work experience may be allowed as a substitute. Level 4: Requires AR Class A HVAC license or equivalent license in good standing from another US state. Seven (7) or more years of experience may be allowed as a substitute for license. MUST POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE. Preferred Education and/or Experience Licensed as a high pressure boiler operator.
